Jurisprudencialmente se comenzo por establecer que la salud era parte esencial de la vida, pero como la Ley 100 de 1993, al establecer indicadores de eficiencia y rentabilidad, sometio a criterios neoliberales la prestacion de este servicio, las Entidades Promotoras de Salud (EPS) comenzaron a “rechazar” la atencion de aquellos que demandaban terapias y drogas que no estaban en el Plan Obligatorio de Salud (POS). A partir de la Carta de 1949, en Alemania Federal se adopta una formula que cambia cualitativamente el Estado liberal clasico en Estado social de derecho, que convertia al Derecho Constitucional en el garante del regimen de libertades y derechos fundamentales, a traves de la modulacion de los contenidos de las sentencias de constitucionalidad y los test de ponderacion y balanceo, cuando estos estuvieren en juego. Es asi que la Corte Constitucional colombiana, usando la modulacion del contenido de sus fallos, fue creando una especie de POS jurisprudencial a lo largo de los centenares de tutelas que revisaba por violacion del derecho a la vida a causa de la no prestacion del servicio de salud. Se llega de este modo a la celebre Sentencia T-760/08 que establece de modo permanente tal POS jurisprudencial y crea normas reglamentarias y de procedimiento que vinculan a las EPS a un marco juridico para prestar su servicio, creando como figura autonoma el derecho fundamental a la salud. All of the patients had previous splenectomies, four patients had bone involvement and hepatic cirrhosis. The identified Gaucher genotypes were 1448C/1213G, 1603T/1603T, 1448C/1390G, and 1213G/1213G. The prognosis of type 1 Gaucher disease is generally good. We propose that patients with a similar clinical course and genotype to those presented in the present study should receive prompt comprehensive treatment. Numerous immunotherapeutic interventions have attempted to achieve adaptive immunity against Aβ with a range of different antigenic designs and immunomodulatory strategies, most of them with great success in AD mouse model studies. Most of these studies have shown that both active and passive immunization can drastically reduce amyloid deposition and prevent the decline in cognitive performance. New approved clinical trials are under investigation to test the effectiveness of those different vaccination approaches, although previous data showed modest clinical success with some adverse inflammatory events in immunized elderly patients. The search for new approaches to overcome these severe side effects has led to novel technical methods such as live vector or DNA vaccines, although the use of innovative adjuvants combined with selected amyloid peptides is among the most auspicious. The objective of this paper is getting\ncloser to juvenile criminality by examining data provided by\nthe National Institute of Statistics, in order to verify the rights\nand wrongs of these social allegations. For this purpose,\na quantitative analysis is made of the number of sentenced\nyoungsters, their infringements and breaches and the\nmeasures imposed on them, as well as the criminality rate,\nwithout disregarding the variables relating to gender and\naliens’ origin. Recently, we have shown that Aotus TCRVA genes and TCRJA segments exhibit a high degree of similarity to human counterparts. In the present report we used reverse transcription polymerase chain reaction to analyze the sequences of A. nancymaae TCR beta-chain gene rearrangements. Alignment with human sequences and phylogenetic comparison identified 18 distinct Aotus TCRBV genes homologous to the human TCRBV gene families 2, 4, 5, 6, 7, 9, 12, 15, 24, and 28. Multiple Aotus genes were found in the TCRBV4, 5, 6, and 7 families. Some of these TCRBV genes aligned best to the same human gene and thus do not seem to have separate human homologues. Amino acid sequences of the Aotus TCRBV genes were 77 to 90% identical to their closest human counterparts. Ten distinct Aotus TCRBJ segments homologous to the human segments J1-1, J1-2, J1-4, J1-5, J1-6, J2-1, J2-2, J2-3, J2-4, J2-5 were found. In some cases the amino acid sequences of Aotus and human TCRBJ segments were completely identical. A comparison of the proportion of synonymous and non-synonymous substitutions in Aotus vs human beta-chain-encoding genes revealed a dominance of synonymous substitutions in TCRBJ segments and of nonsynonymous substitutions in TCRBV segments. Dominance of nonsynonymous substitutions was more pronounced in TCRBV CDR1 and CDR2 regions than in the framework regions. No evidence for the emergence of new TCRBJ segments or TCRBV families was found. These results confirm that the TCR repertoire in primates is remarkably stable and support the concept of using Aotus monkeys as an infection model for the evaluation of future subunit vaccine candidates. http://purl.org/coar/access_right/c_16ec

Cutaneous disposition of model drugs, antipyrine (ANP), lidocaine (LC) and piroxicam (PXC) as well as flurbiprofen (FP) was thus evaluated in hairless rats in which an agar gel disc was subcutaneously inserted into the abdominal region as a drug receptor and a drug donor cell was placed above it. Time courses of plasma level and agar gel amount were measured after topical application of 50% ANP, 3% LC, 1% PXC and 1% FP in hydroxypropylcellulose gel. Percutaneous absorption clearance of unionized form, CLab* was proportional to true octanol/water distribution coefficient and the order of FP > PXC > LC > ANP, suggesting that skin permeation of the drug was determined mainly by its distribution from the formulation to the skin barrier. PXC, however, had a relatively low flux compared to the other three drugs, probably due to its high molecular weight and melting point. Migration clearance of unionized form from systemic circulation to the subcutaneous agar gel, CLg* was also influenced by the lipophilicity of drugs. On the other hand, fraction from the formulation to the systemic circulation was in the order of PXC > FP > ANP > LC. This fraction was much higher than the direct migration fraction from the formulation to the subcutaneous agar gel. Factors determining for these fractions are still unclear. A drug having a low lipophilicity and a low protein binding, however, had a tendency to have a great targeting ability to the subcutaneous agar gel. In addition, most of the drug in the agar gel was contributed by the direct flow from formulation, not from the systemic circulation. The present in situ experimental method is a useful tool to evaluate skin disposition of drugs. Detailed understanding of the skin disposition of drugs from several formulations will enable the findings of a good drug and formulation candidates. http://purl.org/coar/access_right/c_16ec

El trabajo en conjunto será en un futuro enfocado en aplicaciones de telecomunicaciones como: chat para sordo mudos. La base de datos procesada está conformada por seis palabras (adelante, atrás, derecha, izquierda, iniciar y parar). Las señales fueron sensadas con electrodos superficiales dispuestos en la superficie de la garganta y adquiridas con una frecuencia de muestreo de 50 Khz. El acondicionamiento de las señales consistió en: la ubicación de la zona de interés mediante análisis de energía, y el filtrado usando Transformada Wavelet Discreta. Finalmente, la extracción de características se hizo en el dominio del tiempo-frecuencia empleando Wavelet Packet y técnicas estadísticas por ventaneo. La clasificación se llevó a cabo con una Red Neuronal por Retropropagación cuyo entrenamiento se realizó con el 70% de la base de datos obtenida. Mediante muestreo aleatorio simple, se seleccionaron hojas sanas de plantas adultas de diferentes tamaños y distintas etapas de desarrollo de los doseles superior, medio e inferior de la variedad de berenjena Criollo lila. Se tomaron medidas longitudinales (largo de la hoja, ancho de la misma a 1/5, 1/3, 1/2 y 2/3 de su longitud) para determinar las medidas altamente relacionadas con el área fotosintética de la hoja. El área foliar (Y) se midió por el método de relación peso (área sobre una muestra de 30 hojas) por dosel. Se construyeron modelos de regresión simple y múltiple para luego seleccionar el de mejor ajuste. La cesarea es un factor de riesgo para el amamantamiento. Conclusion principal: A pesar de las multi-ples ventajas de la L.M. al alta, solo el 23,6% de las madres ofrecian leche materna exclusiva-mente, a sus hijos. ICA and INVIMA are the government entities in charge of acquiring the sanitary certificates. On the other hand, the agricultural sector has shown better results since the flowers, coffee, and banana imports have increased not to mention the fact that this sector has widened the offer of other products. The cereal growers have not had the same fate because of the high costs of production of their products. Posteriormente, el efecto de diferentes tratamientos sobre la multiplicación de propágulos y el enraizamiento de brotes producidos en condiciones in vitro fue evaluado, al igual que la adaptación final a condiciones ex vitro. Todos los medios fueron suplementados con (en mg L-1) mio inositol (100), sacarosa (30.000), tiamina HCl (0,4) y TC agar (8.000) (Sigma Co.). Los tratamientos de cada experimento fueron repetidos 15 veces y distribuidos con un diseño completamente al azar. Los datos colectados permitieron observar que el medio MS completo favoreció la adaptación del 100% de los explantes a las condiciones in vitro. La mayor tasa de multiplicación se obtuvo cuando los explante se cultivaron en presencia de 0,5 mg L-1 de BAP, mientras que el mayor número de raíces por explante fue observada en presencia de dosis ≥0,5 mg L-1 de ANA. The overexpression of cystathionine β-synthase is thought to participate in the presentation of some phenotypes observed in Down syndrome. OBJECTIVE: The aim of this study was to compare the expression levels of cystathionine β-synthase and histopathological observations from placentas of infants with Down syndrome and healthy newborns. MATERIALS AND METHODS: Six placentas of fetuses/infants with Down syndrome and sixteen placentas of healthy fetuses were studied. Cystathionine β-synthase mRNA and protein expression were performed by real-time PCR and immunohistochemistry, respectively. RESULTS: We observed an increase in cystathionine β-synthase mRNA expression ( p = 0.0465) and protein levels ( p = 0.009) in placentas of fetus/infants with Down syndrome compared with controls. Significantly more circinate edges ( p = 0.0007) and trophoblast inclusions ( p = 0.0037) were observed in the group with Down syndrome compared with control group. CONCLUSION: The results demonstrate overexpression of cystathionine β-synthase mRNA and protein in placentas of fetuses/infants with trisomy 21. Further histological abnormalities were found in placentas of patients with Down syndrome, suggesting an alteration in the development of placenta. http://purl.org/coar/access_right/c_16ec

We linked two population-based registers: the Swedish Twin Register and the Swedish Medical Birth Register. The study covers female twin pairs born between 1953 and 1958, having their first infant before the age of 30 years (n = 1885). In order to separate familial effects from other environmental influences, and genetic effects from shared environmental effects, only complete twin pairs with known zygosity were included, in all 260 monozygotic and 370 dizygotic twin pairs. We used quantitative genetic analyses to evaluate the importance of genetic and environmental effects for liability to teenage childbearing. Logistic regression analyses were used to estimate the effects of life style, socio-economic situation, and personality on the probability of teenage childbearing, and to study whether psychosocial factors could explain possible familial effects. Fifty-nine percent (0-76%) of the variance in being a teenage mother was attributable to heritable factors; 0% (0-49%) was due to shared environmental factors; and 41% (23-67%) was explained by non-shared environmental factors. Thus, the data were consistent with the hypothesis that the familial aggregation of teenage childbearing is completely explained by genetic factors, although the alternative hypothesis that familial aggregation is entirely explained by shared environmental factors cannot be ruled out. Significant effects of smoking habits, housing conditions, and educational level were found in relation to liability to teenage childbearing. However, the familial effects on risk of teenage childbearing were not mediated through similarities in life style and socio-economic factors. When studying risk factors for teenage childbearing, it is recommended to include life style and socio-economic variables as well as information about family history of teenage childbearing. Las simulaciones se realizaron utilizando el software comercial ANSYS FLUENT para predecir el comportamiento del sistema con y sin uso del mecanismo de suministro de aire por etapas. En cada simulación se empleó el modelo Eddy Dissipation para la combustión, mientras que los modelos k - ε Realizable y Ordenadas Discretas fueron usados para la simulación del flujo turbulento y la radiación, respectivamente. Los resultados muestran que el uso de un mecanismo para estratificar el aire favorece la estabilización de llama, la iniciación de las reacciones de combustión y el mecanismo de mezclado. Cuanto más flexibles sean las prácticas de gestión de recursos humanos, la flexibilidad global de la empresa más se incrementará. Por ello, en el presente estudio se trata de determinar si las prácticas de alto rendimiento apoyadas en variables organizativas que mejoren la flexibilidad de la empresa influyen de manera positiva en el compromiso de los empleados. Poor quality of sleep was measured with the Pittsburgh Sleep Quality Index (PSQI) and adherence with the CEAT-VIH (Peruvian adaptation). A Poisson generalized linear model with robust standard errors was used to estimate prevalence ratios and 95%CI. A crude model showed that mild, moderate, and severe poor quality of sleep were associated with inadequate treatment adherence. In the adjusted model for variables associated in the bivariate analysis or variables theoretically associated with adherence, only moderate/severe poor quality of sleep remained associated (PR = 1.34, 95%CI: 1.17-1.54; and PR = 1.34, 95%CI: 1.16-1.57, respectively). The study concluded that moderate/severe poor quality of sleep was independently associated with adherence to HAART. To assess this hypothesis, we study the effect of potassium loading on athletes during prolonged hypokinesia (HK). Studies were done during 30 d of a pre-HK period and during 364 d of an HK period. Forty male athletes aged 23-26 yr were chosen as subjects. They were divided equally into four groups: unloaded ambulatory control subjects (UACS), unloaded hypokinetic subjects (UHKS), loaded hypokinetic subjects (LHKS), and loaded ambulatory control subjects (LACS). For the simulation of the hypokinetic effect, the LHKS and UHKS groups were kept under an average running distance of 1.7 km/d. In the LACS and LHKS groups, potassium loading tests were done by administering 95.35 mg KCl per kg body weight. During the pre-HK and HK periods and after KCl loading tests, fecal and urinary potassium excretion, sodium and chloride excretion, plasma potassium, sodium and chloride concentration, and potassium balance were measured. Plasma renin activity (PRA) and plasma aldosterone concentration was also measured. Negative potassium balance increased significantly (p < or = 0.01) in the UHKS and LHKS groups when compared with the UACS and LACS groups. Plasma electrolyte concentration, urinary electrolyte excretion, fecal potassium excretion, PRA, and PA concentration increased significantly (p < or = 0.01) in the LHKS and UHKS groups when compared with LACS and UACS groups. Urinary and fecal potassium excretion increased much more and much faster in the LHKS group than in the UHKS group. By contrast, the corresponding parameters change insignificantly in the UACS and LACS groups when compared with the base line control values. It was concluded that urinary and fecal potassium excretion increased significantly despite the presence of negative potassium balance; thus, negative potassium balance may not be based on potassium shortage in the diet because of the impossibility of the body to retain potassium during HK. http://purl.org/coar/access_right/c_16ec

La modernidad se entiende no solo como una condición socio-histórica, sino también la emergencia de diversas y sucesivas modernidades, que responden a un modelo de desarrollo socioeconómico, político y cultural. En este sentido, el artículo presenta las relaciones existentes entre el desarrollo, la sociedad, el Estado y la educación modernas, analizadas y reflexionadas a partir de tres momentos derivados del pensamiento de occidente como son: La sociedad de control, la sociedad industrial y la sociedad de intervención, que tienen como sustentos la razón tendiente al equilibrio y al orden. La sociedad de control se caracteriza por un Estado de Derecho, soportados en valores, instituciones y el individuo como un ser racional, la sociedad regida por un interés general que corresponde al de determinados individuos en particular y la educación como mecanismo de integración social, que garantiza ciertos principios tendientes a la felicidad general. La sociedad industrial se enfoca hacia las etapas del desarrollo económico como conducente del desarrollo social. La idea de proyecto se mantiene a través de un orden racional de una sociedad orientada por la razón y el tiempo cronometrado, lo que favoreció el trabajo mecánico, seriado, la parcelación, la especialización y la acumulación. En este escenario, la educación es fundamental para el trabajo, la vida social y la política, los cuales se enfocan a intereses económicos, dejándose al margen la condición social multidimensional. En la sociedad de la intervención se resalta la posmodernidad en contravía de la objetividad, la universalidad, el control y la racionalidad; se pone en cuestión el desarrollo en sus insuficiencias, el problema de la legitimación y se evidencian las rupturas con las formas clásicas y modernas de entender el mundo. Entra en diálogo la cultura científica con la humanística, en el desafío de vivir juntos en un escenario de incertidumbre, apertura en el modo de pensar, en las acciones y las posibilidades que existen en los contextos de los sujetos. La sociedad de la intervención coexiste con la sociedad del conocimiento, y el conocimiento y la información son instrumentos nuevos de poder. The region is simultaneously the world's most urbanized, has some of the world's largest social and economic inequities, and hosts some of the world's most biodiversity-rich ecosystems, including several biodiversity hotspots. As cities in Latin America are expected to continue to expand, partly on areas harboring valuable biodiversity hotspots, there is an urgent need to understand how biodiversity and ecosystem services interplay in and around cities. This assessment aims to describe urbanization trends in Latin America and the related impacts on urban biodiversity and ecosystem services, complementing the general framework with shorter case studies of four cities around the region. It also explores the potential for city planning to provide support for biodiversity and ecosystem services. The study found that cities in Latin America exhibit extreme social and economic differences, which generate a complex mosaic of urban settlement structures and ecosystem management systems. Low-income neighborhoods are typically either interspersed with the local ecosystems in peri-urban areas or completely lacking green spaces. High-income neighborhoods have a higher concentration of green areas, but are usually dominated by non-native species. It also found that conservation of ecosystems and biodiversity, and ecosystem services provisioning, are low priorities in urban planning; they are not acknowledged as key elements for the quality of life of the city inhabitants and human well-being. The knowledge base is also limited, as research on the consequences of rapid urbanization on biodiversity and ecosystem services in Latin America is poorly developed. Además, se identificaron los riesgos asociados a padecer enfermedades cardiovasculares de acuerdo con los niveles de isómeros trans encontrados, teniendo en cuenta algunos estudios científicos que relacionan el consumo de grasas trans con este tipo de enfermedades. En este estudio se encontraron grasas transisómeras en las margarinas analizadas, cuyos valores oscilaron entre 1.43% hasta 2.99% de la materia grasa (%mg), cumpliendo con la Normatividad Colombiana (0% libre de grasas trans equivale a menos de 500 mg por porción). A total of 86 unrelated patients with FH were selected on clinical grounds, and complete DNA analysis of the low-density lipoprotein (LDL)-receptor and apolipoprotein B (apoB) genes by DGGE and DNA-sequencing was performed. In the majority (73%) of the cohort studied, no mutations could be detected, even after extensive analysis of the LDL-receptor and apoB genes. However, the 22 patients with a mutation had significantly more xanthomas and a higher incidence of coronary heart disease and levels of low-density lipoproteins were also significantly different. There was no correlation between the type of the mutation and lipoprotein levels or clinical signs of atherosclerosis. The fact that the majority of the FH patients studied had no detectable mutation and that this group had a significant milder phenotype, suggests the presence of a third gene in the Southeast Asian population, predominantly leading to a disorder resembling a milder form of FH. A total 47 types of both monocotyledonous (21) and dicotyledonous (26) seedlings of different plant species were found t o germinate in this experiment. The highest number of seedling population in monocotyledonous and dicotyledonous plants belonged to Axonopus compressus (Swartz.) P. Beauv. (total number-506) and Bacopa monnieri (L.) Penn. (total number-131) respectively. All the seedlings emerged from soil seed-bank belonged to five monocotyledonous and twelve dicotyledonous plant families where, representatives from Gramineae and Compositae were the maximum. Lifeform spectra showed the highest proportion of hemicryptophytes among the germinated plants and in respect to habit, most of the plants (about 85%) were herbaceous. http://purl.org/coar/access_right/c_16ec

In spite of the existence of different types of dioptra, all of them have the property of helping to fix the line of sight. The so-called sighting-tube, basically an empty tube to look through, was one of the simplest types of dioptra. In the history of art there are few reported iconographic representations of this type of instrument. However, such representations are of great historical value because they help to shed light on the possible uses and types of dioptra used during these times. The hypothesis established in this article is that we have discovered such a one representation, non-previously described, at a XV century Flemish tapestry. The cognitive disorders in Parkinson's disease (PD) have traditionally been associated with the presence of dementia in later stages of the disease. Recent studies, however, consider that cognitive impairment can appear as of early stages. Knowing the cognitive profile of PD furthers our understanding of the clinical phenotype, making it easier to reach a timely diagnosis and favouring intervention on the symptoms from the initial stages. AIM. To present a review of the literature on mild cognitive impairment (MCI) and dementia associated with PD. DEVELOPMENT. Several studies report that patients with PD who have a prolonged time to progression develop dementia. Yet, there have also been reports claiming that, as of the early stages, patients can present subtle cognitive alterations known as MCI. The initial neuropsychological profile is mainly of a non-amnesic type, characterised by executive dysfunction, alterations affecting attention, operative memory deficit and faulty retrieval of information. When patients develop dementia, disorders will arise in the storage of information, in semantic fluency, and in visuospatial and visuoperceptual skills. Currently there are criteria available for diagnosing the MCI and dementia associated with PD, as well as valid reliable instruments for detecting those disorders. CONCLUSIONS. Cognitive symptoms are frequent in PD.
